The Stephen Gray Memorial Road Safety Award

[Previous Years:-- 2008 --] 2009 The Stephen Gray Memorial Road Safety Award was presented to Aine Mc Laughlin 6th class, Scoil Naomh Fionan, Whitecastle, Quigley's Point. The competition is held annually for the Primary schools in the Inishowen area and this year's competition concentrated on the wearing of seat belts. Each school was presented with a road safety flag reminding all of the importance of wearing your seat belt while travelling.       There was a large turnout of parents and children at the event which was held in Scoil Naomh Fionan, Whitecastle. There was a very high standard in this year's event. Jenny Mc Laughlin of the Road Safety Authority was in attendance along with Garda Martin Conroy, Eamonn Brown-Donegal Road Safety Officer,  and Donna Price and Ann Fogarty--members of PARC. This year's trophy was presented by Laura Gray, daughter of Stephen Gray who was killed on St. Stephen's night 2004.          Laura Gray presenting The Stephen Gray Memorial Road Safety Award to winner Aine Mc Laughlin (Scoil Naomh Fionan, Whitecastle).  Also in photo is Ann Fogarty--PARC member.  Susan Gray, PARC Chairperson, was really delighted with the entries and is most grateful to the host school and the teachers involved. The beautiful trophy which was designed, made and donated by Inishowen Engineering, Buncrana depicts Inishowen cradled by the seat belt. Ann Fogarty of PARC spoke to the pupils about the importance of wearing seat belts and how her life was saved by wearing one while travelling in the back seat of a car.
